The International Battle against Cancer
According to the World Cancer Research Fund, each year 7.9 million people die of cancer worldwide, which accounts for 13% of total mortalities. It is anticipated that the global number of mortalities caused by cancer will rise from 9 million in 2015 to 11.4 million in 2030.
In most Western countries, cancer is the second-largest cause of death, following cardiovascular diseases. The increasing ageing of the world population is playing a significant role in the rise of the cancer statistics. In 2006, 500 million people were 65 or older worldwide. In 2030, this figure will have risen to 1 billion, which is one in eight inhabitants of our planet (World Health Organization 01.04.2008).
This development places a heavy burden on healthcare worldwide. It is a good reason and an opportunity to adjust the policy for and the practices of healthcare systems to the new demographic reality.
At the same time, the current world citizen is becoming more and more critical and independent. People have higher levels of welfare, increasingly choose to live alone, are better educated and, due to the Internet for example, they have increased access to more information. Furthermore, people are starting to realise that you can make choices as a patient about where and from whom you wish to receive healthcare. Take care of number one - an ever-larger proportion of the population is prepared to pay extra for additional healthcare.
Furthermore, advances in medical science create increasing possibilities.
The ability to offer efficient and high-quality healthcare, together with the harrowing situation of many (cancer) patients, inspired Zernike Group B.V. to devise a new healthcare organisation; Zernike Health Care Group, which strives to operate as an International Centre of Expertise
on the international health care markets. It offers knowledge and expertise in healthcare matters concerning medical aspects but also on key factors as housing, financing, ICT, organisational and infrastructural issues.
For the future Zernike Health Care Group also aims to develop hospitals focused on cardio vascular treatments.
Zernike Health Care Group presents itself as a full service organisation offering total solutions for the international health care markets.
